One of the most popular dishes in many parts of the world is curry, made with a variety of spices. The homeland of the best known and researched of these, turmeric, is India and Indonesia, where it has been highly valued for both its culinary and medicinal properties for over 5,000 years. About 1,000 years ago, turmeric was brought to the West by Arab traders and is now widely used around the world.
Turmeric gives the curry its distinctive bright yellow colour and contributes to its aromatic, astringent, warming and slightly bitter taste. As a member of the ginger family, it also adds a slightly spicy element.
Ayurveda, the Indian system of maintaining health by natural means, has long considered turmeric one of the most important herbs for a multitude of reasons. One of them is its adaptogenic action, meaning that it is able to help the body and mind adapt to physical and mental stress, that it has the potential to increase energy, strength, stamina and mental clarity.
Many health professionals consider turmeric to be the queen of spices because of its many benefits. Many studies have shown that it has beneficial effects on cell health, digestive system, joints, blood sugar control, eyes and skin. Indian and other cultures view turmeric as a food for the skin.
As an antioxidant, it tackles the powerful hydroxyl radical and can thus contribute to the protection of cell mitochondria, DNA and RNA. It is also extremely popular among people interested in slowing aging.
Turmeric contains a small percentage of curcuminoids, such as curcumin (between 2 and 6 percent on average). Like the whole spice, extracts with curcuminoids have their own specific health benefits. The whole spice contains all naturally occurring bioflavonoids, while curcumin is only one of its ingredients, according to some – the most active. The truth is that both are useful in their own way. That’s why the AquaSource Turmeric Complex product contains both.
Turmeric has long been used to relieve muscle soreness and stiff and damaged joints. Turmeric and curcumin are often recommended to people who, as a result of gluten consumption, have digestive or various other health problems. This phenomenon is becoming more and more widespread, and not infrequently the affected person has no idea that their health problems are largely due to gluten.
AquaSource Turmeric Complex also contains the following supporting ingredients:
We all know we need vitamins to be healthy. And that we need to get them through food, because our body either cannot produce them at all or cannot produce enough to meet our needs.
Vitamin C is a powerful antioxidant and is needed for a great many things in the body, not least – the immune system, the body’s internal self-cleansing mechanisms, collagen synthesis, skin health. The adrenal glands also need a lot of vitamin C when we are exposed to stress. Vitamin C is also needed for building bones, teeth and muscles, as well as for the biosynthesis of neurotransmitters and some hormones. And that’s just the beginning of the list!
BROMELAIN: Bromelain is found in pineapple, mostly in the core and the stalk, which people usually throw away when they eat fresh pineapple. This enzyme is traditionally used by chiropractors and osteopaths as a powerful remedy against swelling. Nutritionists also recommend it as a digestive aid and for tendon and connective tissue injuries, ankle sprains, stiff joints, and to relieve sore and damaged joints in older people.
GINGER ROOT EXTRACT: Ginger has long been known as an effective and safe remedy for a variety of problems. Everyone has probably heard of its ability to help with stomach upsets. It has a calming effect and is also thought to contribute to maintaining healthy blood sugar levels. The list of benefits of ginger consumption is quite long.
CINNEL EXTRACT: Cinnamon doesn’t just make apple strudel and cappuccino more delicious – there’s another good reason more people are adding it to their food and drinks. It is known to slow down the rate at which sugar from food moves into the blood and from there into the body’s cells, and this is extremely important for those who need extra help balancing their blood sugar. It is also known as a source of antioxidants. AquaSource uses Ceylon cinnamon, which outperforms the more common cassia cinnamon many times over.
WHITE WILLOW Bark EXTRACT: AquaSource Turmeric Complex contains a small amount of white willow bark extract. White willow bark has been used since more than 2 500 years ago by Chinese, ancient Egyptian and ancient Greek physicians, as well as by Native American healers in North America. Phytotherapists use it similarly to aspirin, but while aspirin damages the stomach lining, the tannins in white willow bark seem to protect the stomach lining.
EXTRACT OF ALOE VERA: The ancient Egyptians called aloe vera “Plant of Immortality”. According to one of the many myths about it, the use of aloe vera was part of the beautifying regimen of two Egyptian queens – Nefertiti and Cleopatra.
Today it is more popular than ever before. Its leaves are extremely rich in nutrients and ingredients with active healing action and contain the complete protein profile, the eight essential amino acids and 20 of the 22 amino acids needed by humans. And the two missing ones are produced in the body from the other twenty provided by the aloe vera leaves. The leaves also contain many vitamins and minerals, eight enzymes, as well as fatty acids and bioflavonoids. AquaSource just had to add this amazing plant to the new formula. Aloe vera has long been used for skin and digestive as well as many other problems.
OIL LEAVES EXTRACT: We all know about the benefits of the Mediterranean diet, which are largely due to the consumption of olive oil and its high oleuropein content. Both olives and the leaves of the olive tree have been the subject of numerous studies confirming their extraordinary wealth of powerful bioactive compounds with antioxidant action that protect against swelling and have many other beneficial qualities.
BLACK PEPPER EXTRACT: Black pepper is extremely popular in the world of spices and has been widely used for centuries. Its active component is piperine, which increases the bioavailability of curcumin, the key compound in turmeric. The powerful duo piperine & curcumin works more effectively and its health maintenance benefits are highly appreciated by many.
Two capsules of our Turmeric Complex provide 10 mg of piperine. According to a study published in the journal Planta Medica in 1998, piperine alters the metabolism of various drugs and dietary supplements and increases the bioavailability of curcumin (from turmeric) by 2,000%. However, more is not always better, so it is not recommended to take more than 6 capsules of AquaSource Turmeric Complex per day.
