AquaSource Algae
Optimal food from nature
A key ingredient in many of AquaSource’s products is some of the world’s finest blue-green algae. What makes this miracle of nature so important? For hundreds of years, scientists have known seaweed as a food source and a supplement to food. They have studied different forms of algae from almost every part of the world.
One very nutritious species of algae is known as “blue-green algae AFA” (Aphanizomenon Flos Aquae or AFA). The highest quality blue-green algae is harvested from Upper Klamath Lake, located in the Cascade Mountains, southern Oregon, USA.
Fed by more than seventeen pure mountain streams and geothermal springs, this ancient lake boasts a ten-meter mineral layer and possesses the most mineral-rich alkaline waters on earth.
This is where AquaSource harvests its algae from; the place where Nature’s most complete and balanced food grows. The algae found here have many remarkable properties – nothing can compare to their nutritional profile.
They are one of the richest sources of a variety of nutrients per gram of their weight.
- Vitamins – contain most vitamins; excellent source of vitamin B12, B5 and C
- Minerals – provide a large number of minerals and trace elements in an organic, easily digestible form
- Antioxidants – rich in carotenoids
- Protein – provide high quality vegetable protein in a proportion that makes it easily digestible
- Amino acids – contain essential amino acids in levels optimal for the needs of the human body
- Fatty acids – add essential fatty acids to the diet that the body does not produce itself
- Neuropeptides – important for good brain function
- Chlorophyll – absorbs light needed for photosynthesis; cleanses the body internally naturally
Algae are the base of the food chain. They are very rich in nutrients, which means that there is very little waste when consuming them. They are therefore the complete opposite of “junk” food, sometimes described as food with “empty calories”.
The body recognizes the nutrients in algae as food, which is why they are easily absorbed and consumed.
Nicaragua – University of Central America
AFAs were the subject of a doctoral research project led by Sevulla and Aguirre (1995) of the University of Central America, Nicaragua, in which 1,567 school-aged children received 1 gram (4 capsules of 250 mg) of AFAs daily for six months
Significant positive effects on hair, skin and general health were observed, along with a positive impact on children’s attention and participation in class.
Drying process
AquaSource’s BioActive Dehydration® is a patented drying process that dehydrates algae to a powder without compromising nutrients, color, aroma or taste.
In normal drying methods, the main cause of damage is exposure to high temperature. With BioActive Dehydration®, the temperature never exceeds 40.5˚C (105˚F) and exceeds the normal human body temperature of 37˚C (99˚F) in less than two minutes.
