The aboveground parts of the plant are used, which contain the active substances hypericin, pseudohypericin, hyperforin, flavonoids, essential oils, tannins, etc. The herb acts antidepressant, sedative, antispasmodic, diuretic, antimicrobial, antiviral. It is used for depression, anxiety, insomnia, various diseases of the stomach, intestines and liver, infectious diseases of the respiratory tract, etc. In case of prolonged intake and high doses avoid intense sun exposure.
