In life, you have a very important choice.
You can make things happen.
You can watch things happen.
Or you can wonder what happened when life has already passed you by.
Most people either wait, watch, or wonder what happened.
They simply react.
Life happens, and they do the best they can just to survive.
They finish work for the day, go home, turn on the TV, and go to bed.
They wake up and do the same thing again.
Until one day something changes, and maybe they lose their job.
Then they react – they find another job and start all over again.
This is called “playing defense.”
Someone else is holding the ball.
It may be pure chance.
It could be your boss.
But something beyond your control is making the decisions.
You just react to situations and try to limit the losses.
If you work from 9 to 5, you know this very well.
You live in this city because you got a job there or because you grew up there.
You work a lot because someone else gives you a lot of work, and you need to do it to feed your family.
You don’t have the opportunity to make new friends or try new hobbies because your time is taken up by someone else.
Even small business owners can fall into the same trap.
They wait for the next “fire.”
And as soon as it appears, it grabs their attention and starts dictating their lives.
They run around all day, solving problems.
They take care of the urgent, but more and more things become urgent.
More than anyone can handle alone.
They are constantly on the defensive.
The business controls them and dictates their every move.
They say the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over but expecting a different result.
People on defense complain about the same things over and over without ever taking control and making a change.
The truth is, there are many things in life that we cannot control.
You can’t control the actions of other people.
You can’t control the weather.
If you are in a situation where your life is governed by many external factors that you cannot control, that is a bad position.
I call all these things risk factors.
Breaking up with a partner is a risk.
A friend who disappoints you is a risk.
An employee who doesn’t perform is a risk.
Your health is a risk.
Being fired is a risk.
But here’s the secret
Many of these risk factors can be influenced by your actions.
People on defense don’t understand this.
You can reduce the risk of disease if you take care of your body properly –
by eating well, exercising, and taking vitamins and supplements.
You can reduce the risk of disappointment if you surround yourself with better people with better values.
You can even “control the weather.”
How so? That makes no sense, does it?
But it’s true.
I completely stopped the snow by moving from Boston to Athens, Georgia.
If I had moved to Florida, the effect would have been the same.
The most incredible thing in life is that you can change:
- the people you associate with
- the city you live in
- the job you go to every day
Instead of waking up every day and doing the same thing, wondering why nothing is improving, start looking at what you can actively change.
It’s not easy.
But it is possible.
Living on the attack
Few people think this way.
That’s why only a small percentage of people really make things happen.
They live their lives on the attack.
These people live where they want.
They do what they want.
They change their job if they don’t like it.
They make new friends if the old ones disappoint them.
They control their income and make decisions that directly affect it.
They limit risk factors and take control.
Some businesses are also run on the attack.
There, the owner makes the decisions.
He decides how to use his time.
He works on what really matters.
He invests in growth and continuous improvement.
It’s better to make things happen than just react.
It’s better to control your life.
It’s better to play on the attack.
How to switch to attack?
Start setting aside time for the important but not urgent things.
People on defense react to problems when they have already appeared.
People on the attack work so that negative things don’t appear at all.
They work on their health.
They develop their skills.
They build experience.
They make contacts.
They look for new opportunities.
This is not pleasant at the moment. This is work.
And it’s not work that has to be done right now.
That’s why it’s so hard and so few people do it.
These are efforts that will not pay off today.
They will pay off in months.
Sometimes after years.
People on the attack understand this and act anyway.
It takes courage
If you are not where you want to be and still have goals –
it’s time to free up time and simplify your life.
It’s scary to make changes.
It’s scary to leave even unhealthy relationships.
It’s scary to move.
It’s scary to start a business.
It’s scary to ask for an opportunity.
But everything worthwhile requires courage.
Start with your goals
Which 20% of your activities bring you 80% of the satisfaction?
How much time do you spend on them?
Then make a plan.
Start doing the uncomfortable things.
Postpone instant gratification.
Work in your spare time.
Guard your time.
Use it consciously.
No one will give you permission.
You have to go out and do it yourself.
Network marketing is one of the few opportunities where you decide whether to play defense or offense.
You can do it – when you have time, when you have energy left, when you are not uncomfortable.
Or you can use it as a tool to regain control of your time, income, and environment.
MLM is not magic.
But it is a chance to move from reaction to action.
From defense to attack.
The choice, as always, is yours.
