Our unique strain of Acidophilus supports the good functioning of the gastrointestinal tract and the balance of intestinal flora necessary to maintain good digestion and a more complete absorption of nutrients from food. Probiotics are healthy bacteria that have long been known to supplement the natural bacteria needed to promote proper digestion. One strain that has been shown to better colonise the gut for extended periods with regular use and provide more substantial health benefits was discovered by Dr. Khema Shahani, a professor of food technology at the University of Nebraska. This strain of Lactobacillus acidophilus, known as DDS-1, has been shown to remain unaffected by stomach acidity, resist bile salts and grow well in the intestine. This is the strain used in AquaSource Acidophilus.
