menopause
Menopause
is the one-year period without a menstrual cycle from the last uterine bleeding caused by the hormones normally produced in the ovaries. Menopause can only be determined retrospectively. The immediate cause of the end of menstrual function is the exhaustion of ovarian endocrine function. This also definitively marks the end of the possibilities of getting pregnant. In about half of women, menopause occurs around the age of 50.
