After about 2 hours on the internet looking for a hand sanitizer against coronavirus and not being able to find in big Bulgarian manufacturers, I decided that I should check how to make my own at home.
The truth is that the main ingredients of most hand sanitizers are most often ethyl alcohol, a thickening agent and a flavoring agent. With these ingredients, we obtain a ready-to-use ethyl alcohol-based gel formulation for hand disinfection with bactericidal, including tuberculocidal, virucidal (HBV/HIV, Rota, AH1N1, encapsulated viruses) and fungicidal activity.
Sample ingredients for 100 grams:
Active substance: 66 g Ethyl alcohol (CAS 64-17-5)
Other Ingredients: skin softeners, gel forming agent, colorant and fragrance, composition
Realistically the main thing is the ethyl alcohol, and the other stuff we can combine as we see fit.
Here are some sample recipes we can use:
Recipe Aloe Vera
Non-admirable products:
- 1 cup high proof spirit
- 15 drops of tea tree oil
- 1/2 cup aloe vera gel
- Way of doing:
Pour the alcohol into a bowl. Add to it the aloe vera gel. Since alcohol is aggressive to the skin, the gel will soften the effect and not allow your hands to get excessively dry. Mix well until homogeneous. Finally, add the tea tree oil. It has natural antibacterial properties, and a great aroma. Pour the liquid into a spray bottle. Keep in mind that you can use it on any surface besides hands.
Recipe Vodka
Products needed:
- 3 pp. vodka (at least 60% alcohol content)
- ½ tsp. vitamin E by ampoule
- 5 drops of lavender essential oil
- 50 ml glycerine
Preparation:
The ingredients are again mixed in a bowl and then added to a tube or jar that you can easily carry in your bag anywhere.
Recipe Flaxseed
Products needed:
- 1 part. water
- a little flaxseed
- alcohol
- 1 tsp. coconut oil
- rose water
Preparation:
Put the water and flaxseed in a small pot on the stove. Bring the liquid to a boil and let it gel slightly. While it’s warm, add the coconut oil and rose water, and when it cools, add the alcohol.
Wishing you good health and patience!
